Anne Hathaway and Michael Coel were filmed having a sweet moment in front of photographers at a London screening of Mother Mary

In a video shared to social media, Hathaway could be seen helping Coel avoid a wardrobe malfunction in her Loewe dress

Mother Mary was released on April 17 and stars Hathaway as a pop star about to make her comeback and Coel as her estranged best friend and former costume designer

Anne Hathaway is there when a friend is in need. This time, that friend was Michaela Coel.

The Mother Mary costars attended a screening for the new film in London on April 23, which is where the actresses got caught in a real girl's-girl moment because of a wardrobe malfunction.

In a video shared to Hits Radio's Instagram, Coel, 38, could be seen with her hand inside her Loewe gown and adjusting its top, which is when Hathaway, 43, decided to use the billowing bell sleeves of her Iris van Herpen couture gown as a curtain.

"Just need to double-check that no accidents will happen," Coel said while fixing her dress behind Hathaway.

The love between the actresses was also apparent in their photos. At one point, the two shared an air kiss for the cameras.

Mother Mary, an A24 film, follows Hathaway as a pop star who seeks out "her estranged best friend and former costume designer Sam Anselm (Coel) on the eve of her comeback performance," per an official synopsis.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Hathaway revealed that she tapped into her superstar persona with insight from Charli xcx. "I wanted to talk to her about the music, she wrote such amazing music that I was going to perform," she said. "But I also just had a lot of questions for her about what her life was like, what the experience of being a pop star was."

Meanwhile, Coel partly based her character on her own mother, Osborne, who is a seamstress in real life. "My mum was on my mind every single day of this shoot, my God," she told PEOPLE at the film's New York City screening. "I channeled my mom every single day. And it wasn't just about being a seamstress, it was about the pain that she endured, raising children by herself, feeling completely deserted and alone, pining for the love of her ex-husband, my father."

In her 2026 PEOPLE World's Most Beautiful issue cover story, the Oscar winner talked about how her husband Adam Shulman — with whom she shares two sons — has been right by her side throughout it all.

"He supports me completely. This year in particular was unusual. He and I both know that it's probably never going to happen like this again. And the way he stepped up, I mean, in every possible way, he's the most extraordinary person I've ever met."
